Education is an issue close to our hearts. Unfortunately, it is acclaimed that attainment rate and progress to higher education of Turkish pupils are well below the national average, especially in comparison to other ethnic groups in the UK. This does not only affect Turkish communities’ wealth level and social standing but also undermines full social integration in the UK.
Whilst the low social mobility is such an important topic being debated nationwide, we believe that a well-educated and fully participant intellectual ethnic Turkish community would play a vital role in contributing to the UK’s economy. With this in mind, we are offering postgraduate research funding for the academic years of 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 for students to research root causes of this under achievement. The findings of the research will be used in preparation of an action plan to facilitate educational support and raise awareness within the Turkish community.
